ASNMSU represents and serves the students of New Mexico State University through inclusive programs, engaging events, and valuable services that improve the college experience for every Aggie.
Established and outlined in the NMSU Policy Manual - 1.05.85
President is elected to the position, this is the chair of the Executive branch. The Vice President is also elected who is the chair of the Legislative branch. The Chief Justice is appointed, by the President, who is the chair of the Judicial branch.
Each member that is appointed goes through an application and interview process. The ASNMSU President chooses the most qualified candidate and the ASNMSU Senate confirms this candidate.
ASNMSU Senate is based on population of each college here at New Mexico State, no college has fewer then two senators to represent their college.
The head of the executive and legislative branches are elected by the student body each spring. Senators of the legislative branch elected in both fall and spring semesters and serve staggered one year terms. The head of the executive branch, ASNMSU President appoints all of the executive department heads as well as the judicial branch, all are confirmed by the ASNMSU Senate.
President, Vice President and executive staff serve one year terms beginning on May 16th and ending on May 15th of the following year.
ASNMSU Senators serve one year terms beginning at the last meeting of the ASNMSU Senate of the semester.
ASNMSU Justices serve a two year term, that are staggered amongst them.
All appointees must be re-elected or rehired.
When the ASNMSU President position becomes vacant, the ASNMSU Vice President becomes the ASNMSU President. The President Pro Tempore of the ASNMSU Senate assumes the role of ASNMSU Vice President. For ASNMSU Senators, their college councils appoint a new senator to represent their college. For all other positions they are reopened on Aggie Career Manager, interviewed and confirmed by the ASNMSU Senate.
Our staff is in the Student Affairs and Enrollment management line, but most of the staff is in office to provide support.
There must be at least six senate meetings per semester for the Legislative branch. There are no set requirements about the other two branches.

Approximately fifty activities and events encourage student engagement with diverse interests. NMSU students have benefited in over 90,000 instances from ASNMSU free services annually, which leads to academic success. Over 200 student organizations benefited from approximately $243,000 of ASNMSU senate bill appropriations, which directly benefits the students' academic success.
