FY 22 Associate Dean's Academic Council (ADAC) Report

Established Date: The group became ADAC about 2002. Previously, it was the Deans Advisory Council.

Scope of Impact: System

Purpose:

The ADAC identifies potential improvements in academic policies and processes; discusses the affected parties and make recommendations to the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Academic Deans Council, or other decision-making authorities; and provide a mechanism to disseminate information, and address academic matters of concern to the colleges and NMSU system.

Authority:

ADAC serves in an advisory capacity to the Academic Deans Council, the Provost, and other University officials, regarding academic matters. ADAC proposes policy affecting academic processes. ADAC has final approval of changes to the system regulations section of the NMSU Catalogs. The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee is a subset of ADAC that has final approval of new courses and course modifications.

Process for selecting chair: Chair asks ADAC members to nominate at least one current ADAC member to serve as a candidate for the position of Chair for the following year and one candidate for Vice Chair for the following year. The committee will elect the Chair and Vice Chair for the following year. A quorum is require for this vote. Members may vote in person or virtually. Voting members are regular members of ADAC or their designees. Only voting members of ADAC can make nominations and motions.

Reviewed Academic Misconduct process.

Provided input on new scheduling goals.

Provided recommendation (vote) on Graduate Catalog formatting.

Provided feedback on new master calendar.

Reviewed attendance policy as affected by COVID.

Discussed full year registration and steps needed for successful implementation.

Provided recommendation of graduate faculty approval process.

Voted on limitations of faculty submissions via the NMSU Concerns portal.

Discussed/reviewed room scheduling concerns and process.

Voted to support revision to ARP 4.55.2.EE.

Reviewed need to make changes to travel portion of certain faculty-led international programs.

Discussed need to change deadline allowing students to register for a class with instructor's approval.

Reviewed material developed on NMSU's Year 4 Assurance Review.

Provide feedback on faculty profile requirements for new Streamlyne platform

Approved changes to the regulations section of the NMSU Catalog.

ADAC Chair/Vice Chair terms amended.

Provided input on NMSU website transition to Cascade - namely broken links.

UCC reviewed and approved/rejected/tabled new courses and course changes as well as program changes.

Reviewed student/faculty mental health resources available at NMSU.

Took steps to connect expertise across colleges to address website needs.

Reviewed and discussed Student Financial Wellness Survey results.

Provide feedback on VWW waiver for FLIP travel and rewording needed in the Catalog.

Appointed ADAC representative to University Systems Budge Committee.
